I have volunteered with the Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament (CAPP) chapter in Ottawa and as a group we've taken on the task of organizing the January 23rd Rally on Parliament Hill. For obvious reasons the Ottawa rally is going to be a focal point of the days events. On Friday the group met for the first time and after building a concensus of the group's goal (organize a great rally!) we broke into working groups. I offered to head up the Fundraising team.
In the first day since our PayPal account has been active we've raised $200 from 4 donors. That's promising, but not huge given our current goal of $6000. The donation goal will also almost certainly go up. In the next week the other working groups will be asking for additional budget and I hope to have donations already in the door by that time.
Can you donate a small ($5), medium or large amount to help CAPP host thousands of concerned Canadians on January 23rd?
My job is to focus on getting individual Canadians, and especially those in Ottawa, to donate $5, $25, $50, or $100 (or more!) to help protect their democracy. The purpose of the rallies across Canada on January 23rd is go get our MPs back to doing the important work that we elect them to do. Period. CAPP is truly non-partisan and I've met voters from all parties who are dissatisfied that Parliament was prorogued until March.
From our website (www.noprorogue.ca/ottawa) comes an explanation of how the donations will be handled:
We are accepting donations by PayPal – to donate all you need is a major credit card. Donations are being collected by Jerboa Consulting which will then reimburse individuals on the organizing committee who have paid for supplies out of their own pocket. We will not share your information (name, email, address, etc) with anyone and will not use your information for any purpose other than to communicate with you about the C.A.P.P. rally. In the unlikely event that we raise more money than needed any surplus will be transfered to the national Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament team based in Toronto. Please consult our Fundraising Plan for complete details on the financial arrangements. If you have questions or suggestions regarding the donation process please contact Kevin O’Donnell ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 613-203-2620).
Currently our fundraising goals include:
- $5,000 for stage and sound equipment.
- $1,000 for printing and posters.
A first of many thank yous to those of you who donate - it is greatly appreciated!
