Earth Hour Promo Video

So here is the Earth Hour promo video I put together tonight.  I hope the weather is great because I'm hoping to get more than 300 people out this year.

Here's how the video was made:

  • Searched for "Parliament Hill" on flickr and came up with this image.  Originally I was going to put the centre block up as a light bulb with a chain hanging down from it (to click it off), but that image just screamed "make me a clock!"
  • Headed over to processing.org and wrote up some quick Java code to take the original image and create 720 individual TIF files to create the rotation effect.
  • mencoder quickly rendered the TIF files into a single MPEG video.
  • Grabbed a heatbeat sample from freesound.org and clipped out a single heatbeat using Audacity.
  • Grabbed the Earth Hour logo right from EarthHour.org.
  • Pulled all of the above into OpenShot to pull it all together.  Inkscape provided the text.
