I think it was about a year ago that I first heard about Tilt-shift photography and I've finally gotten around to trying it out on a few pictures. Ok - two pictures (album) but I'm planning to add a lot more.
I've always enjoyed photography and was recently thinking that I wanted to do more shots of people and faces - but after applying tilt shift to a few test pictures I'm going to stay in my comfort zone for now and seek out nice landscape and scene pictures instead.
Thilt-shift is most commonly used to simulate a miniature scene - and that's certainly true for expansive outdoor shots. I don't think the shot below looks too miniturized though - to my eye the effect pops the lady out of the background. The instructions I followed also suggested some hue correction and colour corrections.
Technically this wasn't the best photo to use since the blur is applied from left to right across the entire picture. If you look closely you'll notice part of the lamp post is in focus but the bottom is blurred. Sssshh!
Nonetheless, I like it a lot. Look for shots of Winterlude from the Somerset Street bridge.
[Update: A search for 'tilt shift ottawa' on google yeilded this picture - which is a huge coincidence!]
